Adrian Boot

Photographer with the Grateful Dead in Egypt

About Adrian

When The Grateful Dead went to Egypt in September 1978, they didn’t think about bringing a photographer. London-based photographer Adrian Boot was dispatched to Egypt with a writer from both the NME and Melody Maker to document the experience for these legendary British papers.

Known mostly for shooting the burgeoning British punk scene, with a heavy dose of U2, Rolling Stones and Bob Marley to name a few, Adrian was one of Londons pre-eminent music photographers in the 1970s and 1980s. It turns out Adrian was the only professional photographer that shot these shows.

Adrian is retired from shooting music these days, and is slowly moving into full retirement, which allowed Retro Photo Archive to acquire this legendary collection of negatives containing perhaps the most iconic photograph ever of Jerry Garcia  - standing in front of the magical pyramids of Egypt.
